Direct Information Systems Inc. is a North Carolina business formed in the mid-90’s to provide quality consulting service in the areas of Application Development, Data Driven WEB Site Development (with Data Dispersal to both wired and wireless devices) and traditional "Client/Server" Development. Since incorporating more than 10 years ago, the company has built a number of both typical and atypical business infrastructure systems, has guided well established businesses into new areas they hadn’t explored, and have in general done a lot of good technology things for people.

Why Work With Us?

We’re glad you asked, because we feel there are several important reasons to work with us (or at least someone like us). First, we don’t do IT Projects without a “PMI Compliant” Project Plan, which the customer agrees to. That accounts for our management’s long history of never having a problem with a project undertaken on a “start to finish” basis. If you were wondering, PMI is the international institution which oversees/certifies the “Project Management World”, and yes, we are PMI certified. Second, we are a tight knit group of degreed individuals whose team experience makes us faster than many “loosely associated” contract IT development groups. Third, we use industry standard tools and languages for development as well as our own proprietary "DIS CASE" program generation software. Forth, we are a "real" company with many years of experience in the IT business, we didn't "...use to be in (pick an industry) business but we decided we liked computers so we started this company..."; we have a real office, real people who answer the phone, real hardware and software, etc.

What Exactly Do We Do?

We do Application Development (we write programs) which run on the Web, on traditional "DeskTop" systems, on HandHeld Systems and Phones ("Windows Mobile" systems). Technically, in "software development terms", we provide both Data-Driven WEB site development and traditional "Client/Server" model applications using Microsoft’s ‘.NET’ environment, or the platform independent JSP/Servlet/Java Beans model. For tools we use Adobe/Macromedia’s Development Tools, the Microsoft "Visual Studio" tool family (VS 2003, 2005, and 2008), and IBM (now "Rational") Websphere development environment (Eclipse) for Java development.  In cases where visual effect and fast interactivity are important we do what is currently called "RIA Programming" ("Rich Internet Application") in Flash, which is how most animated visual effects (especially site navigation) on the Web are done.

What are our Strengths?

This really is the "bottom line" on what any Technical company does, but it's interesting that not many companies will tell you what their real strength is. Ours is that we are very good at specifying, designing, and building systems which automate large, complex business processes and doing it "on time and to spec".  We have some big advantages over other small (in some circles called "Boutique") development firms out there, in that we make sure before we start writing code that we have a fixed, comprehensive, and "signed-off-on" specification; and over the years we have developed our own proprietary "CASE" system ("Computer Aided Software Engineeting") which "automatically" generates many of the frequently-needed (but different for each project) components for the applications we develop, consequently eliminating a significant amount of work (which our competitors end up doing manually). We also have a 5GB "Knowledge Base" of organized, searchable information we have written and compiled over the years on "how to do stuff" which we bring to bear on each project we work on.
